Stocks End Lower as Inflation Accelerates

U.S. stocks slipped, giving up early gains, as investors pondered how the Federal Reserve will act to tame inflation, which Tuesday’s data showed rising in March at the fastest annual pace in four decades.

The S&P 500 declined 15.08 points, or 0.3%, to 4397.45 after rising as much as 1.3% earlier in the session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 87.72 points, or 0.3%, to 34220.36. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 40.38 points, or 0.3%, to 13371.57.
